Meet Mayumi Klempel, Founder
Mayumi’s journey into accounting began as a bookkeeper for a small business, following her undergraduate studies in linguistics. Driven by a passion for precision and problem-solving, she went on to earn her Master’s in Accountancy from San Diego State University and became an Enrolled Agent with the IRS. She later earned her CPA license and built over a decade of experience at respected accounting firms, serving both publicly traded companies and startups.
Before founding White Birch Consulting, Mayumi led the ASC 740 (income tax accounting under GAAP) practice at a large regional firm, where she also developed and delivered training programs as a subject matter expert. Her deep expertise in corporate taxation and complex income tax accounting makes her a valuable resource not only for growing and mature corporations, but also for small accounting firms and businesses seeking specialized support.
A native of Hokkaido, Japan and a nature enthusiast, Mayumi chose the White Birch as the symbol of her firm. Found throughout Hokkaido and Washington State where she resides, the tree is known for its striking bark, rapid growth, versatility, and resilience in harsh climates. Its relatively short lifespan serves as a reminder to live intentionally and embrace the present—values that guide her approach to client service.
